As it is, I’m just a little angry at the stupid checkpoint-only saves.Īnother quibble: the graphics seem stuck in a time warp, lagging behind most big-budget shooters by a generation or two, particularly in the character model department. This would have made me extremely angry at the stupid checkpoint-only save system, except that it seems to save every couple of minutes, so I never had to replay very far to get back to the trouble spots. While I was able to smoothly sail through most areas without dying (unless I did something stupid and totally deserved it), in others I felt completely screwed over by huge numbers of enemy troops and a lack of cover.

First, the difficulty is wildly inconsistent in places. In order to be able to run Darkest of Days at a minimum standard for the game, you will need a CPU ranked better than 2.0 Ghz, more than 768 MB RAM, a GPU that is better ranked than nVIDIA GeForce 6600 or ATI Radeon 9800 with at least 128 MB of video memory, while the PC system is running on Microsoft Windows XP (Service Pack 2).

Which leads me to one of my chief criticisms. There were a few problems like frustrating invisible walls and the inability to jump over waist-high wooden fences, but otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed most missions. The majority of the levels are typical corridor shooter rail-rides, but DoD keeps things lively with open areas where you can choose the order you want to tackle objectives, turret defense segments, zeppelin rides, sniper missions (with an awesome high-tech sniper rifle) and more. I know the casualty rates in these conflicts were high, but not that high. I wish they were a little more consistent, though, because sometimes you’ll go through most of a level without seeing a single survivor. You can shoot them in the leg or the shoulder to bring them down alive, or toss a handful of marble-like devices called Chasers that track down and immobilize “survivors.” The presence of these enemies means you can’t just go for headshots or grenade everything in sight you have to think a little more during combat.

The main one is central to the plot: certain enemy troops, highlighted in blue, are meant to survive their war and therefore must be handled with non-lethal force to avoid tangling up the timeline. The twist: these interventions mostly occur during the Civil War Battle of Antietam and World War I’s Battle of Tannenberg - two of history’s bloodiest clashes.ĭoD borrows more than a little from Call of Duty - like recharging health, scripted battles and legions of easily killed and dumb-as-clay-pigeon soldiers - but it also brings in a few ideas of its own. His mission: to protect and extract certain important individuals who’ve been put in harm’s way by The Opposition, a time-traveling force that’s attempting to change the course of history. They can be neutralized by the nanobots that Alexander receives in the future. He’s then shanghaied into service for an organization of time travelers that specializes in maintaining the integrity of the timeline. Compelling Storyline: Darkest of Days is a compelling, action-packed first-person shooter to be sure, but its not just mindless run-and-gun, blow em up. Brand New Engine: The dedicated team at 8monkey Labs has created an all-new, groundbreaking game engine known as Marmoset. These are people important for the era and cannot be killed. On the battlefield there are opponents, illuminated by a blue aura. Massive battles, often with the main character, about 100 NPCs go on the offensive. Performing the main mission, the player is invited to complete secondary tasks. Locations are not linear, open cards with the ability to select tactics for passing are presented. The Darkest of Days presents 4 eras: the American Civil War, the First and Second World War, the death of Pompeii. The player will travel through eras and prevent the actions of enemies. They destroy important historical figures, thereby changing the future.

The hero is recruited into employees and told that terrorists intervene in the decisive battles of the great wars. He was saved by an employee of the Kronotek company. It further turns out that the player is in the future. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. A man comes out of it and takes Alexander, barely alive, with him from the battlefield. Is there a fix for the game 'Darkest of Days' on pc running AMD graphics instead of NVidia Solved. The main character is shot by an Indian and he is already preparing to die, as a portal opens nearby.
